The problem with distilled water is that it can lead to mineral deficiencies and dehydration, making it a poor choice for drinking. But with the right additions, purified water can be as healthy as regular tap water.
Distilled water is water that has boiled and then has all the dissolved gases removed in a distilling process. This means it is virtually free of everything typically found in our drinking water – no calcium, magnesium, sodium or other minerals with health benefits. Distilled water contains pure H2O molecules and nothing else. The main problem with distilled water to drink regularly as it leads to mineral deficiencies and dehydration.
To make distilled water healthier, you need to add minerals back into the water by dissolving them into it so that you are still getting their health benefits but without the risk of deficiency.
This can be done with minerals already dissolved in your water supply or by adding trace minerals to the water before it is distilled.
Before adding anything to your distilled water, you should always ask yourself, “Is this solution adding value to my life?” If not, then don’t do it! Below we have listed some mineral combinations that have been tried and tested by people who drink distilled bottled waters regularly:
Calcium, magnesium, and potassium are essential minerals naturally found in the water supply. By adding the above three to your distilled water, you can make it healthier, but you need to be aware that they all work together in balance, and when they are combined, they will not be beneficial individually.
If you want them added, start by adding around 1/2 cup calcium carbonate per gallon of distilled water. This will absorb the calcium naturally found at depths below ground in most wells. Suppose you have a lot of calcium carbonate in your healthy water. In that case, the calcium will begin to precipitate out of the Padman Water Solutions, and you will need to replace this with more calcium carbonate.
Magnesium is a little trickier. There are conflicting studies on whether magnesium contributes to bone health, but just as many states, it doesn’t make any difference. TMostpeople who have taken magnesium supplements say they don’t feel any different after they stop taking them.
If you want to add magnesium to your distilled water, you can either buy Epsom salt (magnesium sulfate), or you can make it using a homemade remedy available here: Making Your Magnesium Sulfate ..or if you prefer a more natural solution then, add around 1/2 cup of magnesium chloride to each gallon of distilled water.
Potassium is found at high levels in many good glasses of water and is also an essential mineral for the body. It helps regulate blood pressure and keeps the heart working properly, but too much water could cause heartburn and upset stomachs. There is a lot of debate surrounding whether or not potassium supplements have any beneficial effect over just drinking distilled water.
